The Great Northern Contemporary Craft Fair

It’s a bit delayed but I wanted to share some of the incredibleness of the GNCCF with you – I know it sounds like some sort of European train station but I’m referring to the Great Northern Contemporary Craft Fair in Manchester….and GREAT it was.  A few people had mentioned this to me and a couple of flyers had been put on my desk at real-life-job and it just so happened to be the weekend I’d arranged to meet a

Make your own retro baubles

Who remembers those ace glass Christmas tree baubles that looked like this? They were always my favourite but every year they seemed to get broken whilst in storage. Well look no further as a crafty contact has created this brilliant tutorial for retro baubles which won’t ever smash!  Hurray!  Fabric Retro Baubles

Hoping she gets some into her Folksy shop soon for those of us that

Silver locket, handmade in the UK!

This is my lovely mum with a silver locket I made her for her birthday last year. The locket was a real challenge and I had no idea how or if it would work.  Luckily when I was learning to make jewellery at night class I made a box locket for a good friend so could just about remember the basics on making hinges but there was a lot of trial and error and I went back to the

Found our way to a new festival…

Another holiday, another nice jeweller discovered….well, this wasn’t really a holiday just a long weekend at a new music festival called No Direction Home.  Yes there was mud, yes there was mulled cider and yes I managed to go shopping.

Some festival highlights:

Beautiful music – Gruff Rhys, Django Django, The Unthanks (with Rastrick and Brighouse Brass Band – Ace!), Hyperpotamus – a very bendy man from Madrid with a mouth that can do amazing things and a loop pedal.

Costa Rican adventures and jewellery

Costa Rica, how we have fallen in love.  We recently returned from an utterly amazing dream holiday in this fabulous country.  It was hot, hot, hot and the greenest place I’ve ever been. The wildlife and scenery left us speechless so instead of rambling on here (on my *silver jewellery* blog!) I’ll simply share a handful of photos and recommend that you add this special place to your list of must see locations.

Personalised silver jewellery name necklace

Another commissioned present for a good friend who wanted her son’s name in silver. I had to use slightly thicker sterling silver for this (as opposed to fine silver which I usually use) as it was quite intricate work and sterling just gives something like this a bit more toughness.  She loved it…and so does little Ellis, at 10 months old it’s the perfect sparkly thing for grabbing!

Wearing your house on your sleeve silver cufflinks

A recent commission for some personalised silver cufflinks for an architect. These were a really straight forward commission until I got to the personalising bit.  I haven’t used my letter stamps very much and promised to stamp the recipients initials on the back of the cufflinks….so far so good except all three initials wouldn’t fit on without the cufflinks being massive! Oops.  Anyway, I managed to fit two initials on

Putting the ‘Ink’ in Silver Ink Tree

Just a super quick blog post about a short evening course I recently attended at The Bowery in Headingley. It was a 6 week print making course taught by the talented lady Miriam Trent behind Mint Print. Miriam helped us explore several different types of printing – collagraph, mono print and lino printing whilst forcing us to eat ferrero rocher.  The results of people’s work were really fantastic considering we were all beginners, I took just …

This Charming Bracelet

I’ve now finished and delivered the charm bracelet commission I was making and I was so pleased with the results.  I’ve heard happy things form the commissioner (who has been away in the Congo of all places!). She really likes it and it’s a pressie for her God Daughter so I hope she likes it too when she’s a little bit older.  I’ve decided to add Charm Bracelets into my online shop with a choice of little charms – eventually I’ll make …

Nana’s handmade silver clip-on earrings

Recently I spent time working on a commission for some clip on earrings for a special lady in her 90s. She is my Sister-in-laws Nana and she is so adorable.  She bought the pretty triple flower necklace that is featured on my website almost as soon as I launched the site and was keen to have some matching earrings.

Unfortunately I had terrible trouble with the clip-on findings.  She had some that she wanted to send me to use
